What is the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association?

O’Dea Clan members from throughout the world gathered at Dysert O’Dea in 1990 for the first time since the Flight of the Wild Geese in 1691.  Meeting in nearby Ennis, these Clan representatives formed the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association (as Gaélige: Cumann Chlann Díseart Ó Déaghaidh) to facilitate and encourage exchange between Clan members and to promote research into the history and genealogy of the O’Dea Clan.

Who can be a Member of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association?

Dysert O`Dea Clan > Membership of the Clan Association

If your name is O’Dea, O’Day, O’Dee, Dea, Day or Dee, or if you are descended from an O’Dea, O’Day, O’Dee, Dea, Day or Dee, then you are a member of Clan Uí Deághaidh.

Membership of the O’Dea Clan is not the same as being a member of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association.

Becoming a registered user of this web site doers not constitute membership of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association.

Membership of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association is open to all persons who bear the surname or maiden name O’Dea (including O’Day, O’Dee, Dea, Day or Dee), and their relations, and others wishing to promote the objects of the Association.

In order to become a member of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association, you must apply for membership and pay the appropriate membership subscription. 

There are two ways you can apply for membership of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association:

  1. Submit an online application and pay online using your credit card/debit card or your PayPal account.
  2. Download and print a membership application form and pay by check/cheque.

What are the benefits of membership?

  2. Regular issues of the Clan Newsletter which will be sent to you by post or email.
  3. As a member you will receive a discount on registration fees for attendance at Clan Gatherings in Ireland.
  4. Each member has the right to vote at Clan Gatherings including voting for the Taoiseach (Clan Chieftain).
  5. Members have access to the full range of Web site facilities including Private Forums for members-only discussions.

How much does membership cost?

Current Subscription Rates

  • There are two types of membership: Individual and Family/Household memberships.
  • A Family Membership means one or more adults and any number of children living in the same household.
  • An Individual Membership means one adult living in the one household.
  • The membership fee is currently the same for both Individual and Family memberships.
  • The membership fee is the same for New memberships and Renewals.
  • Members can elect to receive the Clan Newsletter by Email or Post.  The membership fee is currently the same in each case.
  • Current Subscription Rates: Individual = €35, Family= €35.

  • The membership period for the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association is from one Clan Gathering to the next.
  • Clan Gatherings are normally held every 3 years.
  • For practical reasons, the membership period begins on 1 July and ends on 30 June, 3 years later.
  • The last Clan Gathering was held in Ennis, Co. Clare in July 2022.
  • The current membership period is 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025.
  • The current Triennium began on 1 July 2022.
  • If you join today, your membership term will be from today to 30 June 2025.

When does my membership expire?

  • Your membership of the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association expires on 30 June in the year of the next Clan Gathering.
  • Clan Gatherings are normally held every 3 years.
  • For practical reasons, the membership period begins on 1 July and ends on 30 June, 3 years later.
  • The last Clan Gathering was held in Ennis, Co. Clare in July 2022.
  • The current membership period is 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025.
  • The current Triennium began on 1 July 2022.
  • If you join today, your membership term will be from today to 30 June 2025.

If I join part way through the membership term, do I have to pay the full amount?

Dysert O`Dea Clan > Membership of the Clan Association

Yes.  If you join the Dysert O’Dea Clan Association part way through the membership term, you need to pay the full subscription.

If you join during a membership term, the effective start date for your membership will be back-dated to the 1st of July of the year in which the last Clan Gathering was held.  However, if you join in the last 6 months of the membership term, the effective start date will be forward-dated to the 1st of July of that year.

  • Clan Gatherings are normally held every 3 years.
