It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely death of John O’Sullivan of Ennis, founder member and first treasurer of the clan, who passed away on May 22. John and his wife, Cecelia, were always wonderful stalwarts and supporters of the clan. John and Cecelia have not missed a reunion since the clan was founded. We dearly miss John’s passing.
Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife Cecilia, son James, daughters Ann, Irene, Cecilia and Maureen, sons-in-law Kevin and Bob, daughter-in-law Helen, grandchildren Cian, Eoin, Cormac, Donnchadh, Bernard, P.J, Rose, Seamus and Siobhan. John is predeceased by his daughter Rose and son Sean.
It is with deep regret that I pass on the sad news of the recent death of John O Dea of Waverley, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare who passed away on May 2. In the early days of the clan, John was a regular attender at our reunions until he became ill and was confined to Carrigoran Nursing Home. Despite his illness,John regularly kept in touch with clan affairs.
We extend our deepest sympathy to those who survive John, his loving brothers Fr. Tom (Ballynacally) our clan chaplain and Dr. Domenic (Toronto, Canada), sisters Evelyn (Flanagan) (Ballinasloe, Co. Galway) and Phyllis (O’Halloran) (Cashel, Co. Tipperary). John was predeceased by his brother Patrick and sister Irene (Neylon) (Ballyea).
Kay Josselyn O’Dea, 1937-2012 – from James E O’Dea (US).
My wife and best friend for 54 years died 3/3/2012 at our Panorama SNF with progressive dementia [2 strokes] and sudden ovarian adenocarcinoma. All family gathered. Jim O’Dea
Kay Josselyn O’Dea, 74, of Lacey, WA and formerly Portland, OR, recently passed away from ovarian cancer at the skilled nursing facility at Panorama in Lacey, which was her retirement community since 2004 following a major stroke in 2000.
In 1958 Kay met her future husband, James E. O’Dea. Sons James Andrew (1966), John Edward (1968), and daughter Elizabeth Kay (1973) were all born in Portland. John and his wife, Kim Ritterbush O’Dea, gave Kay and Jim three grandsons: Aiden, Ewan, and Liam.
Kay received two medals for her volunteer service with the US Army, including the Emma Marie Baird Award, and was invited to the White House twice as a representative of the Girl Scouts. The strength and closeness of her family is a wonderful testament to the woman she was and the legacy she leaves behind.
